YORKSHIRE WILDLIFE RESCUE SANCTUARIES
At the moment we have 114 hedgehogs at the sanctuary, the highest amount we have ever had in the sanctuary at one time, most of these have injuries from lawnmowers strimmers, and the never ending injuries caused by wire mesh.
Of these, 28 are sick orphaned babies. The baby hoglets coming into the sanctuary are very weak, sick and lethargic. six of these we have been unable to revive and unfortunately died despite our efforts.
PLEASE if you see one of these baby hedgehogs, they need immediate help, people sometimes wait too long to call us and it is often too late for us to help them. If we get them as soon as there is a problem we can nearly always save them. If you are unsure if they need help please still call us, sometimes we can have a look at the hedgehog and if there is no problem we will send them straight back out to the area they came from, but it is better to check to make sure.
The squirrels rescued by the sanctuary this year have all gone sucessfully back to the wild, as have the 3 baby bats, and the birds.
We were really pleased to return to the wild 2 wood pigeons, who were hand reared, this was a first for the sanctuary, and good experience for the future.
